Spanish proverb
There was a time when I had my fixed list of things to bake, & everyone was pretty satisfied & happy. I would bake brownies, then oatmeal cookies, then muffins, then a pound cake, chocolate chip cookies, lemon cake…& so on back to brownies. This loop continued until around September 2007. Then suddenly one day my browser accidentally stumbled into Jugalbandi. I couldn’t for the love of me figure out what it was all about, but I suddenly found ‘real’ recipes, beautiful pictures, & people who could talk to each other. Yes, I had been living under a rock all along.
I hung around from time to time, clicked on unsuspecting links & reached other blogs! Goodness, there was a whole world waiting to be discovered. Then one fine day I mustered up the courage & secretly made my own blog. The hub was let in a few days later, & he was so proud that I had my own place on the web!!
Now, of course, everything’s changed. We have exuberant bloggers, active, enthusiastic, supportive, hilarious , talented people; each willing to open up their world to others from time to time, share their mastered recipes, give out heirloom secrets & generally enjoy this virtual world. One wish…I wish I had more time!
Something else changed too. I’m now on a ‘try everything at least once’ route & the family has never had it soooo good! It adds great variety to the table, snack box & quality of life. Earlier the family was happy; now they are ecstatic, & checking the fridge for desserts ever so often!! LOL!! Ever since the colours on my blog changed, I’ve gone into a chocolate overdrive. This after swearing that I wouldn’t do any more chocolate for a while. But than again, life’s so unpredictabe!
Saw this Chocolate Yogurt Cake at AK Mom’s blog @ What’s Baking, & it’s been on my mind for long. It sounded healthy & full of yogurt (1 1/2 cups) & looked really, really nice & moist. With no snack in the house the other day, I grabbed the opportunity to try something new. The cake came out really nice & chocolaty & with a great crumb. Only just realised that there was a vanilla drizzle to it too, but ours tasted delicious even without it!

-
Grease well & flour a 9″ bundt pan, & preheat the oven to 180C.
-
Sift both the flours + baking powder + baking soda + salt + cocoa. Keep aside.
-
Beat the butter & sugar. Add eggs & beat again. Add the coffee & vanilla extract & beat.
-
Now alternatively add the flour mix & yogurt till well incorporated. Don’t over mix. The batter will be quite thick, ie, not a flowing one.
-
Turn into bundt pan, level out & bake for 45 mins to an hour/until done. Slide a sheet of foil over the top loosely if you see it browning too soon.
-
Once done, cool in pan for 5 minutes, turn out on rack.

This looks beautiful – what a great way to use yogurt!
I remember discovering food blogs for the first time and I was instantly sucked into their food, their children and found myself wondering about them and what they would make next. It’s a wonderful world isn’t it.
This cake looks like a lovely snack with some cold milk. Simple and delicious.
Ahhh Deeba,
how nice it is to wake up in the morning and found your Yogurt cake. Wish I can just grab it from my screen.

Elra

I do wish I had more time to devote to blogging but slow n steady in my case! FYI, I absolutely love your blog, and your enthusiasm too. Chocolate yogurt cake looks and sounds yum.
Oh I agree with you about yogurt in cakes. I even use yogurt in muffins, it adds such creaminess to them.

Turned out great (35mins@180C my oven), not too sweet, not too bitter, moist n just right for coffee time..I skipped the coffee pwdr+essence as kids wd love to have more of choco flavor ..for kids, half a cup more of sugar wd hv provided a sweet touch, but all the same, each kid happily gobbled two pcs! Thanks for sharing..!
Anything with coffee AND chocolate in it is for me!
Looks great – can I have a slice…please?
I can see why you would want to try this cake Deeba. The first food blog I ever discovered was Ruth over at Once Upon a Feast and Presto Pasta Nights. It took me a while to dive in to blogging myself but I am glad I did. It is almost 2 years now!!!!!
Oh this looks so moist and delicious. I have one with buttermilk, but this is way healthier with the wholewheat flour! And i cant stop drooling!!
Hi Deeba,

Sorry – one question. Can I make this without a bundt pan? Like a normal cake tin?

Need to be more inspired by you…[than i already am]
Just love you’re blog…..
I love baking with yogurt. It makes everything so moist. But I haven’t tried chocolate and yogurt yet. Looks like I should! Yum!
This looks great! I am always looking for cake recipes – and chocolate cake recipes – to use in my dad’s old bundt pan. This one looks delicious and everyone will eat it.
Mmmm. It looks yummy. I love yogourt cakes and this has an aditional interest: chocolate! It must be just great.
I was surprising to find a spanish proverb here, one I use quite often indeed. Though “tortas” here is not for cakes but for some kind of “no yeast bread”, is not as good as bread but if you are hungry and you don’t have any bread at all, “tortas” can taste really good.
Love from Spain.
Your pictures are gorgeous and the cake looks delicious. YUM!
It does look delicious, all on its own. How happy we are that you took that step and made your own place on the web. We are all benefiting from your lovely post, pictures, recipes and delightful personality!
